Facing Redundancy – What do you do next?
Want to get another job?

Start by putting your CV together. It may have been a while since you last did this, so it’s likely your CV will need a bit of an update. Once you’ve updated this though, you’ll be ready to start applying for jobs.

Write a one-page summary of why you should be considered for a job. Then, when you’re filling in application forms, you won’t have to think when you get to this page – you’ll just be able to copy down what you’ve already written.

Start looking for jobs – consider the Job Centre; your local paper; recruitment agencies and anywhere else you can think of. Ask friends and family too. Employers are still recruiting, even in this market so get yourself out there.

Make sure you have clothes suitable for an interview – I’m talking about smart clothes here, so a suit or smart work clothes. Potential employers will want to see that you can be presentable.

Practice interview techniques before you actually get in the room. And don’t forget to go for it!

What is the role of a New Business Sales Person?

As specialists in Sales Recruitment, it is essential that Ace Sales Recruiters can recognise the key skills required of a new business sales person.

When people think of sales, it can conjure up many different images. It can range from anything from a Sales Advisor, Consultant or Retail Sales Advisor, which is generally classed as a softer sell. The reason for this is that in this situation, the customer has usually made the initial decision to purchase something before they enter the shop or sales environment. Other sales people can be known as Telemarketers or Telesales Consultants, which generally involves contacting customers in the home environment in order to offer them a product or service which they may or may not want/need. Therefore the lead is colder.

Other types of Sales people can be Call Centre Advisors, Door-to-door Sales and Sales Managers. There can sometimes be quite large variations in the job title and the depth of the sales involved in the role can also be varied.

Perhaps one of the most intense of sales roles is that of a New Sales person. They will generally be targeted on the amount of ‘new’ business they generate, i.e. from companies that have never paid money for the product or service previously.

Duties of a New Business sales person will generally follow a format of this kind;

  • Identifying possible and relevant business opportunities, researching and gathering information upon those leads and acting upon them.
  • Initiating contact with a key decision maker via the telephone, followed up with a face-to-face business meeting to establish a relationship.
  • Taking the needs of the client on board, composing and presenting a viable business solution to them in order to secure the business.
  • Tendering for the business and negotiating suitable rates to work within.
  • Overseeing the life cycle of the entire sale and utilising the expertise of available workforce in order to ensure best possible service is offered.

Depending on the size and structure of an organisation, a New Business person might simply gather the lead and once they have gained the interest of the customer, pass this on to another person who then sees the business through and effectively ‘manages’ the account.

Sales Recruitment looks in depth at a candidate’s account of their sales experience. It is our job to identify the level of your sales skills and how you might fit into a new opportunity using that skill set. Recruiters will generally require demonstrable evidence of a person’s track record in winning new business, as this is measurable in most instances. More importantly, due to the very nature of the attributes required to be a successful sales person, most should have a close hand on their achievements to date and be more than willing to demonstrate their new business sales track record.
